The city of Bristol has an immensely rich and superbly varied history, making it an ideal city in which to take a vacation. In the past Bristol was amongst the top 3 medieval towns after London. Bristol was one of the most important trading ports in the land, and during the 1300’s, the port handled most of England’s trade with Ireland. In 1373 Bristol became an English county, and it was during this time that the city developed into a centre of shipbuilding and manufacturing. Fortunately, those wishing to have a short break in Bristol will quickly find that there is a wealth of bed & breakfast accommodation in Bristol available to book online, making it immensely easy to book a room.
Bristol has an amazingly diverse arts scene with the city bringing forth an interesting selection of immensely talented and rather successful artists over time. Liverpool, once the second city of the British Empire, has, since the Second World War been in decline. In recent years there has been a massive increase in investment with the centre of the city witnessing regeneration. In 2008 Liverpool was the European Capital of Culture throughout the full twelve months there were numerous events ranging from world class music concerts to superb art exhibitions. Now the year has passed what is there to bring in tourists to this wonderful city? Well there are certainly a number of new hotels meeting the requirements of all pockets with accommodation ranging from discount Liverpool bed & breakfast to top class five star luxury hotel accommodation. In the following article I introduce 3 attractions in the city.
Tate Liverpool
Found on the Liverpool’s waterfromt, as part of the Albert Dock complex, is Tate Liverpool. Since opening in 1988, the Tate, for a short space of time, was the largest gallery of contemporary and modern art in the United Kingdom, outside London. The Tate is a highly popular tourist attraction in Liverpool, seeing more than 600,000 visitors through its’ doors each twelve months. The gallery is in one of the 5 converted warehouses orignally converted by James Stirling. However, the building had to undergo further refurbishment in1988 to create more gallery space. In 2007 the foyer was redesigned, giving the gallery a more modern appearance and better proportions in the reception area.
The Albert Dock
Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg, whom the docks were named after, opened the docks in 1846. The docks were {very busy throughout the years,~Over the years the docks were extremely busy}, but eventually had to close to shipping in 1972. For many years the docks lay quiet and derelict, until the 1980’s when they were redeveloped with funding from the Merseyside Development Corporation. The dock consisted of five warehouse buildings, all of which are Grade I listed, making the Albert Dock complex the largest set of Grade I listed building in the United Kingdom. The docks are now home to a selection of attractions, including the Tate Liverpool and the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
Liverpool Anglican Cathedral
Liverpool is celebrated for having two cathedrals: the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and the Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral. When John Charles Rye was assigned Liverpool’s Bishop in 1880, ironically there was no cathedral in Liverpool as that time. Eventually, after a lot of deliberation, the powers that be agreed that a cathedral was essential. In 1902, they chose to have an open competition for the design of the cathedral. The winning proposal was chosen in 1903, and surprisingly, was a design by student Giles Gilbert Scott, who had no previous building experience. Another architect, George F. Bodley, was appointed to work with Scott, and oversee all building works and designs. King Edward VII laid the foundation stone in 1904, and in 1910, the first part of the cathedral, the Lady Chapel, was completed.
Besides the 3 visitor attractions examined above the city of Liverpool has a great many more. Not only this there are a huge number more not too far away, perfect for a day visit. Highlands Vacations: Staying In Loch Ness
Scotland is a very good country to visit. It is intensely popular with mountain climbers, hikers, hill-walkers, ramblers and other folk who enjoy vacations of this ilk. Most people enjoy the varying and stunning countryside which features a fantastic list of places to visit including some famous, and jaw-dropping, areas of outstanding beauty. One such site which is, most likely the most well-known is Loch Ness and the famous Loch Ness Monster. In the following article I examine this most incredibly fascinating Loch Ness as a vacation destination.
Hugely moody and deep, Loch Ness is a huge stretch of water found in the majestic Scottish Highlands not a great distance from the city of Inverness (see below). Surrounded by the most graceful countryside, which has lush forests, heather clad mountains, the loch is much more well known for being the home of the Loch Ness Monster who is affectionately known as Nessie.
Nessie make her first appearance in history in the story of the life of St Columba. It is said that Saint Columba enticed a monster back into waters of the loch after the beast had been creating havoc with one of the monks in the group.
At the start o f the twentieth century a new road was constructed closely hugging the shores of Loch Ness. After only a couple of years in nineteen thirty four articles concerning sightings of a monster started to appear in the media.
Inverness, widely called the capital of the Highlands, was eventually granted city status in the year two thousand and one and at the moment is the the only city to be found in the region. Uniquely (in the United Kingdom) Inverness has no legal boundaries which causes problems for folk estimating population. The problems are made worse by the fact that Inverness’ population is on the increase, the city has the highest growth rate of any city in Britain. One fact we know for certain is that the population of the city is very happy, in 2008 the Telegraph ranked Inverness 5th out of 189 cities in Britain for its quality of life. So I think we can say that Inverness is a pretty alright city in which to live and this is probably one of the reasons which make the city immensely popular with tourists. Importantly there is a great deal of Inverness guesthouse and hotel accommodation with most of it being available to book online.
One important fact you should remember is that the airport for Inverness is, roughly, seven miles to the east at Dalcross. It is possible hail a cab to the small and busy airport which is quite reasonable. If you require maps of the area then you should get one of the free ones at the tourist office, on Castle Wynd. While you are enjoying you vacation in Inverness you should make a point to visit Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, Inverness Castle, the Mercat Cross and ’stone of tubs’ especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, an enjoyable interactive experience.
If you are thinking about taking a vacation in Scotland based in Inverness and Loch Ness then you will discover Inverness bed and breakfast online by searching for “Inverness hotel accommodation” or “Inverness bed and breakfast” into your favorite search engine (the inverted commas/quotation marks can help a great deal).

Are You Having A London Vacation? Why Not Have A Ride On The London Eye
The capital city of Great Britain, London, has numerous fascinating tourist attractions, ranging from the incredibly ancient to the very new. The vast majority of the visitor attractions are familiar all ’round the planet (such as, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and the Houses of ParliamentBuckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London). Among the most recently built are the Millenium Dome, Millennium Bridge, London Aquarium and the London Eye.
The Merlin Entertainments London Eye (it’s full name), is more commonly named, just, the London Eye or,from time to time, the Millenium Wheel (due to the fact that it was constructed as part of the Millenium celebrations). The Merlin Entertainments London Eye was officially opened by the then British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, on the thirty first of December however, sadly, there were technical problems therefore it was not opened to the public until March. At the time of erection it was the world’s highest Ferris wheel at a height of one hundred and thirty five metres.
The gigantic wheel can’t be missed in Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank peering over to the Houses of Parliament below. From inside one of the thirty two capsules towering above London it is possible to see an incredibly large number of the many London landmarks, the earlier mentioned Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Hampton Court Palace and St Paul’s are to name just a few, what an amazingly unique way to see most of London and, most probably, the reason it is one of the busiest paid for attraction in London.
The first flight on the London Eye is at 10 am however the ticket office opens half an hour earlier. It closes at 9.30 pm between July and August, 8pm between April and October and at 9 ‘o clock at night for the other months of the year.
Folk arriving in a car will be pleased to learn that there are three nearby car parks. For those traveling in coach parties there are parking facilities very close to the Eye (Tel:) +44 (0)870 990 8886) for details.
The easiest method to get to the London Eye is by the underground rail, simply get off at one of the following stations; Embankment, Westminster, Charing Cross, or the nearest Waterloo. It is also possible to arrive by boat, get off at Waterloo Millennium Pier.
Finding London bed and breakfast accommodation is as simple as popping over to Google, MSN or Yahoo (or another popular search engine.
