Useful Info On Scottish Island Vacations And The Isle Of Harris

Are you and your friends considering taking a holiday in Great Britain? While nearly all tourists having a Great Britain vacation choose to stay in popular places like London, others would rather visit places such as Scotland. In the article below I introduce the Isle of Harris and the factors which make it such an excellent vacation destination.

Although London might have some of the greatest galleries and museums in the British Isles  together with some of the world’s finest visitor attractions  it can not appeal to all types of folk.

Some tourists much prefer more relaxed, and less hectic, vacations while other tourists have a preference for more action packed vacations for example sporting vacations. Strangely the Isle of Harris, in the Western Isles (or Outer Hebrides) of Scotland, appeals both kinds of visitor.

Similar to a great many other people bathing on the beach for the whole of my summer vacation has never been my my thing. Please do not get the wrong idea, I do enjoy a relaxing visit to a sunny beach, and Harris certainly features some of the most amazing beaches in the country of Scotland, but, I also like to visit other places on my vacation. I thoroughly enjoy taking in the atmosphere, I also like to experience the local culture and especially enjoy sampling the food. In truth I just like to experience something new each year and I I spend a great deal of time attempting to discover somewhere totally unique and different. This is why, most probably, I so thoroughly enjoy visits to the Hebridean island known as the Isle of Harris and why I frequently decide to stay in Harris self catering houses.

One of the main reasons folk travel to the Isle of Harris is to enjoy the the landscape and the culture of the Isles. The culture of the Isle of Harris has, throughout history been strongly influenced by the Norse, Celtic, English and Scottish races. Nowadays Gaelic is the most widely spoken language and though some speak English, it is commonly their second language. The Harris people are amongst the friendliest in the world and the hospitality is known throughout the word. The people of the Isle of Harris are extremely proud of the immensely beautiful Harris countryside and go to great lengths to keep the place tidy and clean so it is vitally important not to leave litter.

It is incredibly important that you keep in mind that discarded rubbish doesn’t just make the island appear a mess it is also incredibly dangerous to wild animals.

Another important thing to learn is that the Harris roads are rather unique in some areas the roads are single track and you will have to, at times, use passing places to allow traffic to pass safely from ahead and behind. Just remember to stop on the left of the road. But, If you are faced with a large vehicle wishing to pass and the passing place is on your right hand side you can tuck yourself into it to allow the big vehicle pass more easily but at all times be careful not to drive off the edge of the road too much.

I hope that my above article interests you sufficiently in taking a vacation or short break on Harris. Many visitors the Scotland’s Outer Hebrides choose to stay in two places. There are a small number of other islands to visit including South Uist, Lewis and North Uist. Why don’t you consider staying in a self catering house on Harris for and then book a room in a North Uist hotel or a hotel on South Uist for the remainder of your vacation?

Another thing attracting tourists is that the country features beautiful rural districts with an unrivalled selection of awesome beauty spots as well as a comprehensive selection of top class visitor attractions. Below I talk about the incredibly popular English vacation destination of Bristol.

Bristol Vacations and Facts You Should Know

The city of Bristol has an immensely rich and superbly varied history, making it an ideal city in which to take a vacation.  In the past Bristol was amongst the top 3 medieval towns after London. Bristol was one of the most important trading ports in the land, and during the 1300’s, the port handled most of England’s trade with Ireland. In 1373 Bristol became an English county, and it was during this time that the city developed into a centre of shipbuilding and manufacturing. It is the city’s richly diverse cultural history that helps make it one of the most exciting of the English cities of this present day. Fortunately, those wishing to have a short break in Bristol will quickly find that there is a wealth of bed & breakfast accommodation in Bristol available to book online, making it immensely easy to book a room.

Bristol has an amazingly diverse arts scene with the city bringing forth an interesting selection of immensely talented and rather successful artists over time. It is a little known fact  that Wallace & Grommit started life in Bristol, and that Cary Grant also hailed from the city of Bristol. The well known modern artist named Banksy created some of his most widely known pieces of art in and around  the city. Bristol’s City Museum & Art Gallery is a free visitor attraction which is well worth a visit and shows a varied selection of excellent archaeology, ancient artefacts, natural history, works of art  together with a continually changing range of events and exhibitions. For a truly unique arts centre experience take the time to visit Spike Island. The arts centre concentrates upon the exhibition and production of contemporary visual arts, including many aspects of working with moving images, painting, printmaking, multimedia projects and more. If you would prefer visiting a more traditional art gallery, then The Royal West of England Academy should be perfect. It was the city’s very first art gallery and today, it has more than one thousand two hundred artistic works dating from the 19th century to the present day.

You will find that there are a reasonable selection of visitor attractions in the city of Bristol. A great place to visit is Bristol Zoo Gardens which houses more than 450 diverse species of creature. Bristol Zoo is also helping in the conservation of rare amphibians, insects and mammals. from around the planet.

If equine matters excite you then a few hours spent in Horseworld could be a perfect day out for your family and you. A day out at Horseworld allows you to meet horses, ponies and donkeys which have been rescued from dire situations. If you like you can even engage in the hand feeding of the creatures. Another two visitor attractions which are rather similar are Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm and Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park, both of which provide all the things you will require for a thrilling day out for the family.

If my article has enticed you to such a degree that you are now in the process of considering taking a trip to the city of  Bristol it is incredibly important that you reserve your  accommodation as early as possible as, unfortunately Bristol hotels and guest houses tend to be surprisingly busy and are often fully booked for months in advance. If you have a large family you may find that Bristol apartment accommodation are a cheap alternative than paying for your entire family to stay in one of the many Bristol hotels, guest houses or other accommodation..
