Gay Tourism – Why It Is Still A Profitable Market
Gay tourism is a niche market that continues to grow in importance. Many operators have realized the market has a large number of travelers and that they often have higher disposable incomes to tap into. Some operators have been offering specifically targeted gay cruises and tours for a number of years but it is the increase in interest from predominantly mainstream providers that is adding options to the gay tourism market.
The trend for gay tourism has been for it to move out of the shadows and become a real focus for tour operators, hotels, airlines, and regional tourist boards. Major players in these fields are active participants at gay and lesbian travel conferences and see it as a way of finding out what the market wants.
As a result the gay tourism market is moving away from just focussing on major parades or events and traditionally popular gay destinations to exploring more remote destinations or gay perspectives on traditional destinations. This has been able to happen because gay travelers are feeling more confident in themselves and how the world sees them and the greater acceptance by the wider population.
However many of gay tourists are undecided as to whether they themselves want purely gay options or not. For some who spend all their working lives in a gay situation a trip away is a chance for a change and some new perspectives. For some gay tourism options may be a little more expensive than the same options provided by mainstream operators.
On the other hand there is a definite desire for gay travel options. Many enjoy the option of traveling with like minded travelers. Many make lifelong friendships from travel and for some there is inevitably romance.
The gay tourism market is in an evolutionary stage, it is not in it’s infancy but it is developing at an outstanding rate.
